Mia & Owen's wonderfully Welsh wedding ceremony at Gellifawr Woodland Retreat, Pembrokeshire

When guests ask how the couple found me as their wedding celebrant, the answer is usually through my website, Instagram, or being recommended by their wedding venue. I rarely advertise on Facebook, so it was a huge surprise when Mia reached out to me - a former childhood friend I hadn't seen in 18 years.

She explained that she'd seen the one and only Facebook post I'd ever shared about my wedding celebrant business and had taken a screenshot of it before she was even engaged, just in case she ever needed my services. Well… it turns out she did!

After becoming engaged to the lovely Owen, Mia got in touch a few months later and asked me not only to marry them but also to attend their wedding as a guest. Having not seen Mia for nearly two decades, it was an incredibly emotional request.

Despite having another wedding in England just a few days later, I happily travelled to Pembrokeshire, Wales, to deliver Mia and Owen's celebrant-led wedding ceremony at the beautiful Gellifawr Woodland Retreat.

A personal wedding ceremony inspired by farming and family

Mia and Owen are both farmers, and their love story began when Mia relocated from England to Wales to pursue her passion for horses. With Mia being English and Owen proudly Welsh, they wanted a wedding ceremony that felt traditional while still being deeply personal.

Their shared love of farming naturally became a thread woven throughout their ceremony and love story, creating something that truly reflected who they are as a couple.

The couple also wanted to include their six-year-old son in a meaningful way. I suggested hiding the wedding rings beneath his seat so he could "discover" them during the ceremony. It became one of the most memorable and joyful moments of the day, helped along brilliantly by the best man's convincing performance of pretending he'd lost the rings!

Honouring Welsh wedding traditions through song

One of the most important elements of Mia and Owen's wedding ceremony was celebrating Owen's Welsh heritage through music.

After exploring a few ideas together, they chose two songs to sing during the ceremony: the much-loved Welsh hymn Calon Lân and the classic Can't Help Falling in Love in English.

As the couple had chosen more traditional bride and groom seating, it created a particularly special moment when only the Welsh-speaking guests stood to sing Calon Lân. It was powerful, emotional, and made even more meaningful by Owen's sister accompanying everyone with live music.

Blending English and Welsh traditions in a wedding ceremony

Mia and Owen's wedding was a wonderful example of how two cultures and family traditions can be blended into a ceremony that feels authentic and personal.

Their celebrant-led wedding ceremony honoured both their English and Welsh heritage while celebrating their shared values, family life, and love story. It perfectly reflected who they are as a couple.

Creating and delivering Mia and Owen's wedding ceremony was a tremendous honour. Marrying someone I'd known as a child all those years ago felt incredibly special. It's funny how life works out - perhaps this love story extended beyond just the happy couple.

Kind words from Mia & Owen

Emily was amazing throughout and from the first communication. Her attention to detail for our love story and the way she delivered the ceremony was perfect.

We can't thank Emily enough for adding the personal touch to our special our day!
Her presence alone comforted my now husband when he needed guidance and some reassurance and having her there was like a comfort blanket for myself. I knew we were in safe hands.
