A recommendation from The Barn at Botley Hill
Sonia and Pete came to me through a recommendation from the wonderful team at The Barn at Botley Hill where I am a recommended wedding celebrant. Until they met the venue team, they hadn’t realised just how beautiful a celebrant-led wedding ceremony could be. Once the team at Botley explained the freedom and personality that a celebrant-led ceremony could bring to their wedding day, having a celebrant became an absolute non-negotiable. They found my details through the venue’s recommended supplier page, and I was delighted when they got in touch.
Getting to know Sonia and Pete
I was fortunate enough to be invited to Sonia and Pete’s home to hear all about them, their relationship and their vision for their wedding ceremony. Being welcomed into a couple’s home is always such an honour. It gives me a unique insight into who they are and the life they share, from the little details around their home to the things that hold special meaning for them.
When I first met Sonia and Pete, they were newly engaged and it was immediately obvious that they were head over heels in love. What really stood out to me was just how romantic they were as a couple, and how openly they spoke about the depth of their relationship.
As a wedding celebrant, I was instantly excited about how we could bring that romance to life through their ceremony and tell their love story in a way that felt completely personal to them.
Bringing their love story to life
Nature was another huge part of who they were as a couple. They loved sunsets, mountains, beach walks and forest strolls, and I wanted to weave these elements into their ceremony to create a feeling that was not only romantic, but unmistakably Sonia and Pete. The aim was to create something sophisticated and beautifully romantic, while still feeling warm, personal and authentic.
Beautifully personal ceremony details
Sonia and Pete had so many beautiful ideas of their own for the ceremony, including gorgeous readings that perfectly captured the sentiment behind their relationship.
One of the most emotional touches came from Sonia. Her son had pre-recorded a special message for his soon-to-be stepdad, which was beautifully intertwined with the gorgeous vocals of Becka Blanchard. Sonia then walked down the aisle with her son to this incredibly personal soundtrack. It was such a heartfelt moment, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house and it was a beautiful reflection of the family they were creating together.
Romantic personal vows with a touch of humour
Sonia and Pete brought so many wonderfully romantic ideas, my role was to take all those precious details and weave them together into one seamless, meaningful ceremony.
Their personal vows were another highlight. Sonia and Pete made fantastic use of my personal vow-writing guide (available to all my wedding couples) to help them put their feelings into words. The result was two beautiful sets of personal vows that captured the depth and romance of their relationship, while also allowing their personalities and sense of humour to shine through. And, of course, these were lovingly made into vow books from linen card with chiffon ribbon to match their colour scheme by myself.
A ceremony that felt completely theirs
Creating Sonia and Pete’s ceremony was a real joy. From the romance and emotion to the nature-inspired details and little moments of humour, every part of their ceremony was designed to tell the story of two people completely in love and the life they were building together.
And that, for me, is the magic of a celebrant-led ceremony: taking all those little pieces of a couple’s story and turning them into a ceremony that could belong to nobody else.
