Coltsford Mill Surrey Wedding Venue
Coltsford Mill: A Gorgeous Wedding Venue in Surrey
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I continued my Surrey wedding venue tour with a visit to Coltsford Mill, and it certainly did not disappoint.
I was welcomed by the unique sight of people fishing in the vast lake that greets you as you drive into the venue (I later found out these are members of a private club—and the fish caught in this pond are actually included on the menu. Can’t get any more local than that!).
Set in the middle is an island, which will hopefully make for beautiful outdoor wedding ceremonies in the future. It features a heart-shaped pond, a kissing bridge as an entry point, and is accompanied by the sound of running water – the word idyllic comes to mind!
And all of this, before I had even met Jo, who kindly showed me around Coltsford Mill with all the warmth of a freshly made cuppa. She was as gorgeous as the venue!
A family-run wedding venue with personal touches
Part of what makes Coltsford Mill so unique is that it’s family-run. The venue has hosted weddings for 30 years, and the personable service Jo and the events team provide is a true reflection of this. They clearly pour love into every wedding as if it were their own.
I would feel very confident having my wedding here, knowing that Jo and the team would meet our every need and requirement. She spoke so warmly of previous couples and her passion for creating a personalised service, knowing that no two couples are the same.
As a wedding celebrant, Jo’s approach really resonated with me—putting couples at the heart of what we do and creating truly personalised, memorable weddings.
She’s honest about the fact that Coltsford Mill isn’t for everyone, and that somehow makes it even more charming and endearing. She knows her ideal couples and serves them with all her love, energy, and enthusiasm.
They host around 60 weddings a year so they can give each couple the time and care they deserve… although Jo did admit her arm can be twisted to take on a few more weddings if you're truly keen to get wed at this Grade I listed venue.
Character-filled ceremony spaces at Coltsford Mill
As a part-time teacher, I’m a bit of a history buff—so when Jo showed me the smaller of the ceremony spaces, the Mill Room, I was in awe. It features original machinery from the mill, once powered by water and responsible for producing flour used in the venue’s former restaurant. Encased in glass, it’s a unique feature that adds real depth and meaning to the setting.
One of my favourite touches is the dual perspective ceremony setup, this allows for some of your nearest and dearest to see your (hopefully!) beaming faces as you exchange vows.
The room gives off a cosy vibe, with original brickwork adding texture, a low ceiling, and a shorter aisle that creates an intimate atmosphere. Off to one side, there’s also a little breakout space, perfect for guests attending with young children.
If you’ve always dreamt of walking down a long aisle and are planning a larger wedding, the Watermill Barn is a fabulous alternative. The team are well-practised at turning this space around in time for your wedding breakfast.
Despite its size, the dark wooden beams and flooring give it a warm and inviting feel. Chandeliers bring a touch of grandeur, while an abundance of French doors allow natural light to flood in.
The Watermill Barn also opens onto a lovely patio area with views of the ponds, waterfall, and pergola. At this time of year (Spring), a flourishing blossom tree adds even more charm—ideal for a drinks reception, or simply for your guests to spill out into as the evening celebrations begin.
On-site catering and accommodation options
While in the Watermill Barn, I was treated to the delicious aroma of a feast being prepared for an upcoming Easter weekend wedding. Jo told me all about their in-house catering, which is the one element of the day that couples don’t source externally.
That said, this is by no means a downside—Jo explained how much personalisation still goes into the menu. She fondly shared a story about a couple who met across a school lunch hall over sausage and mash. Naturally, they had sausage and mash—with luxury ingredients—for their wedding breakfast.
It’s those kinds of personal touches that make my heart sing, and it’s clear the whole team at Coltsford Mill is rooting for each and every couple.
There’s also a lovely on-site cottage available for use on the day of the wedding—usually by the bride and her bridesmaids for getting ready. The wedding couple can then stay there overnight. The cottage is quaint and full of charm, with a countryside-style kitchen, a spacious living area, a sizable bedroom with an ensuite, and a large upstairs space perfect for pre-wedding preparations.
A venue full of heart (and a dog or two!)
Coltsford Mill is also home to Jo, her family, and her parents—which speaks volumes about the love poured into this venue. You can feel it in every fibre of the setting.
Even Jo’s impressively sized cockerpoo popped by to say hello! Jo happily told me that furry friends are more than welcome at weddings here—yet another thoughtful touch for couples who want to include their fur babies in their special day.
It was such a privilege to visit Coltsford Mill and get a taste of the truly personal experience that couples are treated to here. Their bespoke approach is a perfect match for celebrant-led weddings!
