Connie & Ben’s laughter-filled celebrant-led wedding ceremony at High Billinghurst Farm, Surrey

If there was ever a couple who perfectly embodied fun, laughter and genuine connection, it was Connie and Ben. Their celebrant-led wedding ceremony at High Billinghurst Farm in Surrey was filled with personality, heartfelt moments and plenty of laughter from start to finish.

As a Surrey wedding celebrant, I have had the privilege of working with many wonderful couples, but Connie and Ben were truly unforgettable. From Ben jokingly telling me what to wear to borrowing my ceremony folder mid-vows, their wedding ceremony was packed with spontaneous moments that reflected their unique relationship and infectious sense of humour.

A personalised wedding ceremony full of laughter

Humour played a huge role in Connie and Ben’s relationship, so it was only natural that their wedding ceremony reflected their fun-loving personalities. Their ceremony was carefully crafted to tell their story, celebrate their journey together and showcase the playful banter that has always been at the heart of their relationship.

While there was no shortage of laughter, there were also plenty of emotional moments. Their guests experienced a beautiful mix of joy, sentiment and heartfelt connection throughout the ceremony – exactly what a personalised wedding ceremony should achieve.

Getting married at High Billinghurst Farm, Surrey

Connie and Ben chose the beautiful High Billinghurst Farm for their autumn wedding. Nestled in the Surrey countryside, this stunning rustic barn wedding venue offers a relaxed and picturesque setting for couples looking to create a memorable celebration.

As High Billinghurst Farm is not currently licensed for civil ceremonies, it is an ideal venue for a celebrant-led wedding ceremony. This gives couples complete freedom to create a ceremony that reflects their personalities, values and relationship, without the restrictions of a traditional registrar-led service.

The venue’s laid-back atmosphere perfectly complements the flexibility and creativity that a celebrant wedding offers.

Personal touches that made their ceremony, “Just so them!”

Throughout the planning process, there was an ongoing joke that the wedding was very much “Connie’s day.” This theme even made its way into the ceremony itself, with some light-hearted housekeeping announcements encouraging guests to keep their attention firmly on Connie while she got married – after all, Ben was apparently just there for a good time!

The humour immediately put everyone at ease and set the tone for the rest of the ceremony.

One of the most touching moments came when Connie’s mum shared a poem she had written especially for the occasion. Rather than choosing a traditional wedding reading, she created something completely personal that was equal parts funny, heartfelt and moving.

Connie and Ben’s love story was woven throughout the ceremony, capturing their zest for life, shared sense of humour and deep connection. They also exchanged personal wedding vows, which brought both laughter and emotion.

In a moment that perfectly summed up their day, Ben’s handmade vow booklet started to fall apart while he was reading (I would like to point out, this booklet wasn’t made by me!). Without hesitation, he borrowed my ceremony folder so he could continue. Thankfully, his vows were included within my script, allowing him to carry on seamlessly while providing yet another memorable and amusing moment for everyone present.

A meaningful commemorative signing ceremony

Following the exchange of vows and rings, Connie and Ben chose to include a commemorative signing ceremony.

Unlike a legal marriage certificate, which is traditionally signed by two witnesses, a celebrant-led ceremony allows couples to personalise every aspect of the experience. Connie and Ben invited all of their guests to sign as witnesses to their marriage, creating a wonderful keepsake that reflected the support and love surrounding them on their wedding day.

It was a beautiful way to involve everyone in the celebration and create a lasting memory of the occasion

A truly unforgettable High Billinghurst Farm wedding

Connie and Ben’s wedding ceremony at High Billinghurst Farm was one of the most joyful and laughter-filled ceremonies I have ever had the pleasure of leading. Every element reflected who they are as a couple, from the personalised vows and family contributions to the humour woven throughout the ceremony.

Their day was a wonderful reminder that a celebrant-led wedding ceremony allows couples to create something completely authentic, meaningful and completely theirs.
