Charlotte & Dan’s relaxed and personal wedding ceremony at Marden Park Mansion, Surrey
If you're looking for inspiration for a relaxed, personal wedding ceremony in Surrey, Charlotte and Dan's beautiful celebration at Marden Park Mansion is the perfect example of how a bespoke ceremony can truly reflect a couple's personality.
As a wedding celebrant, my aim is always to create ceremonies that feel authentic, joyful, and completely personal to the couple. Charlotte and Dan wanted a ceremony that was full of laughter, meaningful moments, and personal touches - and together, that's exactly what we created.
I first met Charlotte and Dan at a wedding showcase evening at The Barn at Botley Hill in November 2024. A few weeks later, they got in touch to ask if I would be their wedding celebrant, and I was absolutely delighted as I had a feeling from the very beginning that their ceremony would be full of fun.
Our first official planning meeting took place with me on Zoom and them in Bluewater car park (inside their car!) before they headed off for a cheeky Nando's. It certainly wasn't the most traditional consultation, but it perfectly reflected the relaxed and down-to-earth couple they are.
Charlotte and Dan’s love story
One of my favourite parts of being an independent wedding celebrant is getting to know each couple so I can tell their love story in a way that feels genuine and engaging.
Charlotte and Dan have been together for many years, and it was such a privilege to hear about everything that brought them to this special day.
Both work for the police, so naturally their ceremony included a few light-hearted nods to their careers. Their shared love of animals first helped bring them together, while their passion for food, travel and exploring new places has continued to strengthen their relationship. Japan holds a particularly special place in their hearts, and wherever they travel, they always make time for a game of crazy golf - a tradition that even made its way into their wedding day with crazy golf entertainment for their guests.
These are exactly the kinds of personal details that transform a wedding ceremony from something standard into something unforgettable.
A meaningful wedding reading
Alongside their love story being told, the couple chose to include a reading which symbolised their love for the sea and reflects the sentiment of our lives being a series of chapters which gradually unfold. Charlotte’s beautiful sister, shared the following reading with us:
Chapter One of One Thousand
By OJ Preston
For two people this dawn brought on a magical day
Now husband and wife they head on their way
As a boat setting sail may their journey begin
With calmest of waters, most helpful of wind
And if they should stumble upon turbulent sea
May it pass them unharming – leave them be.
For here are two people whom love has well bitten
Here opens their book which has yet to be written
As the first page unfolds and their life inks its path
May it write a true story where forever love lasts
Let their journey be happy till death do they part
Of one thousand chapters may this be the start.
Personal wedding vows
One of the highlights of the ceremony was hearing Charlotte and Dan exchange their own personal wedding vows.
Following one of my vow-writing tutorials, they created vows that struck the perfect balance between heartfelt promises and plenty of laughter. Their words celebrated their commitment to one another while also including some wonderfully funny references - including Dan's questionable love of wearing socks with sandals and Charlotte's impressive collection of condiments.
Personal vows always make a ceremony even more meaningful because they give couples the opportunity to speak directly from the heart in their own words.
Both Charlotte and Dan’s vow and reading booklets were handmade by myself using chiffon ribbon and linen card which is included within my fee for all my couples.
Unique wedding ceremony ideas
Charlotte and Dan wanted every part of their ceremony to reflect who they are as a couple.
Alongside signing their commemorative wedding certificate using a wonderfully sparkly pen (a must for Charlotte who loves sparkles!), they also included a cocktail-making ceremony. Each ingredient represented an important value or treasured memory. This created a symbolic moment that was both meaningful and incredibly fun for their guests to watch.
These kinds of symbolic rituals are one of the many reasons couples choose a celebrant-led wedding ceremony, as they allow complete freedom to personalise every aspect of the day.
After officially becoming husband and wife, Charlotte and Dan made their way down the stunning steps of Marden Park Mansion surrounded by an incredible confetti celebration from lovely their family and friends.
The celebrations continued with beautiful group photographs outside the venue, including some wonderful moments in front of the vintage 1950s bus which had been driven by Charlotte's uncle - a fantastic personal touch that made the day even more memorable.
To top it all off, they were treated to glorious sunshine over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Charlotte and Dan's wedding at Marden Park Mansion in Surrey was everything a celebrant-led ceremony should be: personal, relaxed, meaningful and filled with laughter.
From their unique love story and heartfelt vows to symbolic rituals and fun surprises, every moment reflected exactly who they are as a couple. It was an absolute honour to be part of such a joyful day.
