Laura and Jamie's truly bespoke wedding ceremony at Mulberry House, Essex
Laura and Jamie celebrated their bespoke wedding ceremony at Mulberry House, Essex, but I first met them – or rather, Laura's mum and auntie – at The Barn at Botley Hill, where I am honoured to be a recommended wedding celebrant, during one of their winter showcases.
Laura's mum and auntie were incredibly enthusiastic about the idea of a celebrant-led wedding ceremony, and I remember the warmth that radiated from them, as well as from Laura and Jamie, when we finally got the chance to chat about their wedding that evening.
Laura and Jamie originally booked The Barn at Botley Hill for a spring wedding. However, plans changed, and they fell in love with Mulberry House in Essex, a beautiful wedding venue much closer to home. You can imagine my surprise when they messaged me to tell me not only the venue had changed, but the wedding date too! Thankfully, I was still available, and with their new venue and date secured, we began creating a completely personalised wedding ceremony.
A Disney-inspired love story with a technical theatre twist
Through meetings with Laura and Jamie and their questionnaires, it became clear the couple shared a love of Disney. They were even planning a trip to Disneyland for their minimoon! Combined with the fact that they met while studying a technical theatre course, it made for the perfect inspiration for a truly unique wedding ceremony.
Laura and Jamie loved having their love story told as though it were a fairy tale, complete with true love's kiss and Jamie's quest across London to propose to Laura. It was completely original, wonderfully personal, and unmistakably them.
Personal touches that made their wedding ceremony completely them
Alongside their bespoke love story, their wedding ceremony included so many meaningful personal touches. A long-term friend (and part matchmaker!) delivered a heartfelt reading of Here's to Right Now by Ms, while Jamie's brother shared a beautiful reading by an unknown author with a truly touching message.
One thing that became clear while spending time with Laura and Jamie was just how family and friend-orientated they are. It was important to them that everyone felt involved in their wedding ceremony, and we achieved this in a couple of lovely ways.
Laura and Jamie loved my suggestion of a ring warming ceremony, where the wedding rings are passed amongst guests during the ceremony. As each guest holds the rings, they silently offer warm wishes, love and positive intentions for the couple's marriage before the rings make their way back to the front ready to be exchanged.
We also included a group vow following Laura and Jamie's personal vows. Their guests joyfully responded, "We do," when asked if they would support the couple throughout their marriage.
A special family vow
Finally, it was incredibly important to Laura and Jamie that their little one played a meaningful role in their wedding ceremony.
We explored several ideas before I surprised them during our first draft meeting with an additional vow. This special promise wasn't made to each other, but to their child. Together, they vowed to love him unconditionally, celebrate every success, support him through life's challenges, and continue sharing adventures as a family. It was one of the most emotional moments of the wedding ceremony and one I'm certain they will treasure for many years to come.
A one-of-a-kind celebrant-led wedding ceremony at Mulberry House, Essex
Creating and delivering Laura and Jamie's Disney and technical theatre-inspired wedding ceremony at Mulberry House, Essex was bliss. It was a ceremony I'll always hold close to my heart.
