Somersbury Barn: a charming, intimate Surrey Wedding Venue

Somersbury Barn is an utterly charming Surrey wedding venue, offering a limited number of weddings each year for couples looking for something a little more personal, relaxed and unique.

I was warmly welcomed to Somersbury Barn by the lovely Lucinda, who looks after all things weddings at the venue. During my visit, Lucinda explained that they host only a small number of weddings each year, typically from late spring through to summer. This allows her to be personally involved in each wedding, getting to know her couples and helping bring their vision to life.

Having visited lots of wedding venues, I think this personal approach is one of the things that really sets Somersbury Barn apart. It's quite rare to have the same person supporting you throughout the planning process and on your wedding day, and there's something incredibly reassuring about knowing you're in such thoughtful hands.

Lucinda is wonderfully flexible when it comes to your plans and choice of suppliers. While she has her own recommendations, she's also understanding of different budgets and genuinely adaptable to what works for you. It's clear that the focus is on creating a wedding that feels right for each couple, rather than squeezing everyone into the same mould.

The glasshouse: a secret retreat

My absolute favourite space has to be the glasshouse. It's such a beautiful, versatile spot and offers something a little bit different.

You could hire it for a small, intimate wedding ceremony, use it as a breakout space for guests during the day or make the most of it for photographs if the British weather decides not to play ball.

There's something so lovely about the glasshouse. It feels intimate and full of character, making it a wonderful option for couples who want a space that feels a little more unusual and romantic.

The barn: rustic charm with plenty of possibilities

For couples looking for a larger ceremony space, the barn is another beautiful option. Full of original features, it has been lovingly restored and updated over recent years, creating a space that balances rustic charm with a welcoming, contemporary feel.

One of the real advantages of the barn is its versatility. It can be transformed throughout the day, moving from a beautiful ceremony setting to a space for your wedding breakfast before being cleared for an evening of dancing.

It's a lovely option for couples who want that quintessential English barn wedding, with plenty of character and the flexibility to make the space their own.

The tipi: relaxed, boho and a little bit outdoorsy

If a more laid-back celebration is your style, the tipi is another lovely option during the summer months.

With its relaxed, bohemian feel, it's perfect for couples who love the idea of getting married in the middle of a field, surrounded by greenery and open skies, while still having a little shelter from the summer sun or an unexpected shower.

For anyone dreaming of an outdoor-inspired wedding with a festival feel, the tipi could be just the spot.

The barn porch: something a little different

For a more unusual ceremony setting, there's also the option of getting married beneath the barn's porch, with your guests seated on the grass to either side.

I love that Somersbury Barn offers options like this. It's a lovely way to create a ceremony that feels intimate and relaxed, with the countryside providing a beautiful natural backdrop.

What makes Somersbury Barn so special?

There is so much to love about Somersbury Barn, but having visited a lot of wedding venues, I think its real highlights come down to three things.

First, the personal touch. Lucinda takes the time to get to know her couples, understand their ideas and help them create a day that feels genuinely theirs. That kind of personal involvement can make such a difference to the whole wedding experience.

Second, the glasshouse. It's such an original and versatile space, offering something a little different from the usual wedding venue settings. Whether you use it for your ceremony, as a place for guests to relax or for photographs, it adds something really special to the venue.

And finally, the intimate feel of the whole place. All the spaces are just a stone's throw from one another, creating a sense of connection throughout the day. Nothing feels too spread out or impersonal. Instead, there's a cosy, welcoming atmosphere that makes the whole venue feel warm and full of character.

With only around ten weddings hosted each year, Somersbury Barn is ideal for couples who value exclusivity, thoughtful planning and the feeling that their wedding really matters.

I can picture it being the perfect venue for anyone dreaming of a relaxed English garden wedding, a little festival-inspired magic or a celebration that feels personal rather than overly formal.

Make your Somersbury Barn wedding even more personal with a celebrant-led ceremony

With so much emphasis on individuality and personal touches, I think Somersbury Barn is a wonderful setting for a celebrant-led wedding ceremony.

A celebrant-led ceremony gives you the freedom to create something that truly reflects you as a couple. Your ceremony can be as relaxed, romantic, fun or unconventional as you want it to be.

And that's exactly what I love about being a wedding celebrant: creating ceremonies that feel like just your cuppa tea.

If you're planning a wedding at Somersbury Barn and are looking for a celebrant who matches the venue's warm, cosy and personal feel, I'd love to hear from you.
